The CIV Business will give you a competitive advantage in a range of industries, including the private sector, public service and administrative areas.
The CIV Business is ideal for people wanting to establish a career in the business world. It will give you a solid foundation to be able to implement WHS policies and procedures, manage risk in a business environment, develop advanced word processing and spreadsheet skills, organise meetings, give memorable presentations, promote innovation in your workplace, undertake project work and analyse and present research information.
What kind of careers and work could I do?
This qualification suits people who want to work in a wide range of business enterprises, including as an administrator or project officer. It is suitable for careers where you need well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base to apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse information from a variety of sources. It is also suitable for job roles where you provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements for this qualification although you will need to have well-developed language, literacy and numeracy skills.

How is the course delivered?
This course is run face-to-face with trainers who have real-life business experience. We can also deliver the course at your workplace to individual students or small groups, or you can study flexibly (including online). You will have 12 months to complete the course but may be able to complete it sooner than that.
What units I am required to complete?
You need to complete 10 units for this BSB40205 CIV Business qualification. The one core unit of the course is:
- BSBWHS401 Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements
The remaining nine electives are chosen based on your work roles, job requirements and interest in business, common electives include:
- BSBLED401 Develop teams and individuals
- BSBADM405 Organise meetings
- BSBCMM401 Make a presentation
- BSBINN301 Promote innovation in a team environment
- BSBITU401 Design and develop complex text documents
- BSBITU402 Develop and use complex spreadsheets

How interactive and practical is the course?
At NTM this course is practical, interactive and with sufficient time to complete all your assessments. The course contains interesting readings and practical assessment tasks which you can complete in the classroom, at home or in your workplace. Assessment activities may include short written assessments, projects and case studies.
