National Training Masters (NTM) offers the benchmark qualification for training and assessment (TAE). From the 1 January 2016, the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is a requirement for all trainers and/or assessors working for a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and TAFE under the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.

Course Description

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals delivering training and assessment services in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. The CIV TAE40110 is also the industry qualification for workplace training.

By undertaking the CIV TAE40110 you will learn how to plan, organise and deliver training, including planning, conducting and reviewing assessment.

On the 7 July 2017 the Minister announced that changes occurring with the new CIV TAE40116 will not affect existing CIV TAE40110 holders if they hold the units TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools and TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills. NTM offers both these units as part of the CIV TAE40110, read more from the Minister’s announcement on the regulator’s website.

The normal duration of the this course is 12 months, but please note that this course is now in teach out mode and we will only be able to run a limited number of courses, teach out ends 5 October 2017. Consequently, at this stage there is no more evening courses available for 2017, our advice is to enrol now.  There will be no new enrollments at this stage from July 2017.

What are the entry requirements?

This course is NOT an entry level qualification and is NOT suitable for early school leavers.

At NTM the CIV TAE40110 is via advanced entry, you need to have at least a Certificate III (trade ticket or equivalent) or higher qualification (CIV, Diploma or university degree) in your vocational area and at least three years experience in your vocational area. How is the course delivered?

This course is run face-to-face in a real training environment, NOT online. You will have an actual teacher and other students in the training setting. Read our article on why the CIV TAE is NOT suited for online and distance education, and why 90% of students do not complete their online study. There is a combination of face-to-face training that is scheduled with additional assessments to complete at home or work. You will have 6 months to complete the course, however you may be able to complete the course sooner.

You need to complete 10 units for this qualification, seven core and three electives. At National Training Masters we have included the unit TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills and TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools in anticipation of the new TAE40116 CIV in Training and Assessment.

Workplace training TAE

How interactive and practical is the course?

At NTM this course is practical, interactive and with sufficient time to complete all your assessments. This course includes interesting readings and practical assessment work to be completed at home or work. To assist you in becoming a workplace trainer, you will deliver a number of training sessions as part of the course, including one-to-one and group training. There will also be written assessments, projects and case studies related to work-based training and assessment activities.

Pathways to further study and university

After successfully completing the TAE40110 CIV in Training and Assessment, graduates have several pathways options:

  1. Entry into TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and/or  TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development
  2. Entry into TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice
  3. With vocational experience and qualifications, there are a number of advanced standing pathways into university programs such as the Bachelor of Adult Vocational Education and Training at Charles Sturt University (CSU) and other higher education providers

Licensing and regulatory information

Achievement of this qualification by trainers and assessors is a requirement of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.

After completing the qualification you may be eligible for membership with a number of professional associations related to VET and workplace training. Velg training has membership available to graduates of the TAE40110 CIV in Training and Assessment.
