You will need to provide the original copy of your transcript at the time of enrolment. Once you have completed the three units you will then be eligible to transition to the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. You must have industry and vocational currency to be eligible for the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

How is the course delivered? Advanced

This course is run face-to-face with trainers who have real-life workplace training and LLN experience. We can also deliver the course at your workplace to individual students or small groups, or you can study flexibly including online. You will have 6 months to complete the units but may be able to complete it sooner than that. The workshops will require about 120 hours of work for the TAEASS502 unit and another 30 hours of gap training for the two new units TAEASS401 and TAEASS403. You start the course work on the day with 6 months to complete post-course assessments. We run these workshops as “Advanced” for experienced trainers and assessors who have access to three assessment tools for three different units of competency.

What units I am required to complete? One, two or three units?

TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills

This unit describes the skills and knowledge a vocational trainer or assessor requires to identify language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skill requirements of training and the work environment, and to use resources and strategies that meet the needs of the learner group.

The unit applies to individuals who teach, train, assess and develop resources.

Competence in this unit does not indicate that a person is a qualified specialist adult language, literacy or numeracy practitioner.

TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design and develop assessment tools, including tools used in formative, summative and recognition of prior learning (RPL) assessment.

An assessment tool is used to guide the collection of quality evidence in the assessment process. It includes the specific instruments for collecting evidence, as well as information about assessment methods and the procedures to be followed in conducting the assessment.

This unit typically applies to those involved in training and assessment or in the development of learning resources or products, assessors, learning resource or product developers, and training and assessment consultants.

Pathways to further study

After successfully completing the two units (in addition to holding the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment), graduates have several pathways options:

  • Transition or “upgrade” to the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, visit our upgrade page for more information. Technically TAE40116 is not an “upgrade” but a new qualification.

How do these units fit with the new TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment? Do I need to “update”?

Originally training providers were informed that the only change to the upcoming TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be the addition of the LLN unit, however, since the release of the qualification the diploma level assessment unit TAEASS502 has been added. Consequently, the vast majority of TAE40110 holders have to complete both TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills & the new unit TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools. There is no requirement for current TAE40110 holders to upgrade to TAE40116 if students already hold the full TAE40110 qualification and both the units TAEASS502B and TAELLN411 (or equivalent). Read our article on the implications of the new TAE40116. All student must read the update from the Minister on the new requirements, remember if you have TAELLN411 and TAEASS502B there is no requirement to “upgrade”. Technically the TAE40116 is not an “upgrade” but a new qualification, as long as you meet the new requirements, this may mean a transition to TAE40116 or just completing two extra units TAELLN411 and TAEASS502.
